Granny’s Diner

I’m not the kind of person who keeps tons of framed photo’s on display around my house.  I do however have this one of my Granny’s diner on display.  I really don’t know much about the origin of the picture, so it could have been her diner or she might have just worked there.  What I do know and remember about my grandmother who we called Granny is her cooking.   If I talk about her, it’s only to say she made the best buttermilk biscuits I have ever had.  I’m not even sure if they’re called buttermilk biscuits or baking soda biscuits.  For a few years I made them every single day, I am prone to food fads and will love something so much that I need to eat it every day.  I’m sorry to say I lost this recipe, if I ever find it again, I will share it on the recipe page.  The smell of bacon and a hot oven with those biscuits baking in it is my strongest if not my only memory of my granny.  And I’m pretty sure she dunked the biscuits in the bacon fat before she baked them.

I love all the great restaurants but one of my favorite things to do is find an old great diner in a small town and have a surprisingly wonderful meal.

I would love your Granny’s biscuits. Right now I am in lust with the bacon maple biscuits at Huckleberry’s.

Great blog!! It’s kind of like food porn. Can’t wait to read more. I really want to make those flannel cakes right now….but I’m alone in a hotel room in Toronto eating veggies and dip from room service. Frustrating.
